Terms of service
The limits first, because they are the part that matters at sea. Nothing below is softened anywhere else on this site.
What CREWWIZE is not
A boat is not a place for an overstated claim. These are the limits, stated plainly, and they will not be softened in a later draft.
- It is not a substitute for VHF, DSC, an EPIRB or any other mandated safety equipment, and it must never be treated as one. It does not signal distress and nobody ashore is listening.
- It is not a navigation instrument. The charts carried aboard have no soundings guarantee, no notices to mariners and no correction cycle. Navigate from your own charts.
- It is not a certified flag-state official logbook. It is tamper-evident, which is a different and weaker claim than legally recognised.
- It does not carry calls over the internet. There is no shore participation in a live manoeuvre call; off-board access is read-only.
- It is not end-to-end encrypted, and we say so rather than claiming otherwise: the service renders your pages and can read what it stores. What is end to end is narrower and true — call audio never touches the service, and the logbook is signed by the boat.
- It is not a tracker. The cloud has no notion of who is aboard, no vessel is tracked in real time, and there is no live position feed.
- It does not ring a phone with its screen off on iOS. On Android an on-watch mode keeps the app alive in a pocket; on iPhone the crew must have the app open. This is a platform limitation and the app never pretends otherwise.
- It cannot transcribe dictation at sea in the current version, because the browser's speech recognition runs on a server ashore. It records the audio and transcribes it in port, and typing is always available.
The subscription
Four plans (REQ-014 §6.4). FREE is every account's: sign up, keep your crew profile and emergency information, register any number of vessels and stay in touch through the crew community. VOYAGE is bought for one planned voyage by its skipper or the vessel's owner, at USD 2 per crew member per week. CREW PRO is a person's own, at USD 35 a year, renewing automatically: chat, moments ashore up to 5 GB, followers, and voyages looking for crew. APPLIANCE is a CREWWIZE-built board, USD 350 once for the hardware, setup and shipping, and USD 25 a month for the appliance server, which is the vessel's licence.
- Prices are set in US dollars. Where you pay in another currency, Stripe converts the price at checkout and shows the amount before you pay; any tax is added there.
- CREW PRO and the APPLIANCE subscription renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the period already paid runs to its end.
- A paid vessel keeps working offline for its whole paid period. Losing connectivity never looks like losing the subscription.
- After the paid period there are 120 further operating days of full function, with warnings on board and by email.
- Past that, manoeuvre calls and new operational log entries stop. The existing logbook stays fully readable and exportable, a call already running is never cut off, crew can still be enrolled and accounted for, and a man overboard is refused by nothing.
- A plan that lapses takes nothing away that you stored: moments already ashore are kept and stay yours to download or delete.
A lapsed subscription never takes the record away. Reading and exporting the logbook is not restricted by anything, a call already running is never cut off, crew can still be enrolled and accounted for, and a man overboard is refused by nothing.
Paying, cancelling and withdrawing
- Payment is taken on Stripe's own checkout page. No card details are typed on a CREWWIZE page or reach our service. Stripe may act as the seller of record for a purchase, collecting and paying the tax due in your country; where it does, the checkout page and the receipt say so.
- CREW PRO and the APPLIANCE subscription renew automatically. Cancel at any time from Settings or by writing to us; the renewal stops and the period already paid runs to its end. Nothing is refunded pro rata for a period you have used, except as the law of your country requires.
- A VOYAGE purchase is for one voyage and does not renew.
- If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may withdraw from a purchase within 14 days of making it, without giving a reason, by writing to service@crewwize.com. If you asked for the service to start straight away and then withdraw, you pay for what was provided up to that moment. An APPLIANCE board may be returned within 14 days of delivery, unused and in its packaging, and the hardware is covered by the statutory warranty of your country.
Who provides CREWWIZE
CREWWIZE is provided by CENTRAFOX CONSULTING LLC, 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE, Ste R, Albuquerque, NM 87110, United States. Write to service@crewwize.com; a person answers. How we handle personal data is on the privacy page, and help is on the support page.
Your data
- A crew member's emergency data — an emergency contact, and tips for first responders in an emergency situation — belongs to that crew member. Nobody else may edit it: not an owner, not an operator, not us. It is readable by the officers of a vessel they are actually sailing on, and only while that voyage is planned or running.
- Passports, dates of birth and certificates travel to a vessel per voyage, opt-in, and only with the crew member's own consent.
- The logbook belongs to the vessel. Nothing off a boat can write to it or alter it, and no endpoint exists that would.
- Mail is sent by our own server. There is no relay, no sending API and no third party that handles an invitation naming a person, a vessel and a voyage.
- There is no analytics beacon, no advertising network, no data broker and no third-party script on any page of this site.
- We do not claim end-to-end encryption and will not: the service renders your pages and can read what it stores. What is end to end is narrower and true — call audio never touches the service, and the logbook is signed by the boat.
The security page states only what can be demonstrated, including a reading taken from the running machine: what is protected, and what is not.
