Terms and conditions
The limits first, because they are the part that matters at sea. Nothing below is softened anywhere else on this site.
What CREWWIZE is not
A boat is not a place for an overstated claim. These are the limits, stated plainly, and they will not be softened in a later draft.
- It is not a substitute for VHF, DSC, an EPIRB or any other mandated safety equipment, and it must never be treated as one. It does not signal distress and nobody ashore is listening.
- It is not a navigation instrument. The charts carried aboard have no soundings guarantee, no notices to mariners and no correction cycle. Navigate from your own charts.
- It is not a certified flag-state official logbook. It is tamper-evident, which is a different and weaker claim than legally recognised.
- It does not carry calls over the internet. There is no shore participation in a live manoeuvre call; off-board access is read-only.
- It is not end-to-end encrypted, and we say so rather than claiming otherwise: the service renders your pages and can read what it stores. What is end to end is narrower and true — call audio never touches the service, and the logbook is signed by the boat.
- It is not a tracker. The cloud has no notion of who is aboard, no vessel is tracked in real time, and there is no live position feed.
- It does not ring a phone with its screen off on iOS. On Android an on-watch mode keeps the app alive in a pocket; on iPhone the crew must have the app open. This is a platform limitation and the app never pretends otherwise.
- It cannot transcribe dictation at sea in the current version, because the browser's speech recognition runs on a server ashore. It records the audio and transcribes it in port, and typing is always available.
The subscription
An annual subscription per vessel, paid in advance, with the crew seats included rather than charged per head. Crew accounts are free and always will be.
- A paid vessel keeps working offline for its whole year. Losing connectivity never looks like losing the subscription.
- After the paid year there are 120 further operating days of full function, with warnings on board and by email.
- Past that, manoeuvre calls and new operational log entries stop. The existing logbook stays fully readable and exportable, a call already running is never cut off, crew can still be enrolled and accounted for, and a man overboard is refused by nothing.
- Pricing is not published yet. It will be announced before the product goes on sale.
A lapsed subscription never takes the record away. Reading and exporting the logbook is not restricted by anything, a call already running is never cut off, crew can still be enrolled and accounted for, and a man overboard is refused by nothing.
Your data
- A crew member's emergency data — an emergency contact, and tips for first responders in an emergency situation — belongs to that crew member. Nobody else may edit it: not an owner, not an operator, not us. It is readable by the officers of a vessel they are actually sailing on, and only while that voyage is planned or running.
- Passports, dates of birth and certificates travel to a vessel per voyage, opt-in, and only with the crew member's own consent.
- The logbook belongs to the vessel. Nothing off a boat can write to it or alter it, and no endpoint exists that would.
- Mail is sent by our own server. There is no relay, no sending API and no third party that handles an invitation naming a person, a vessel and a voyage.
- There is no analytics beacon, no advertising network, no data broker and no third-party script on any page of this site.
- We do not claim end-to-end encryption and will not: the service renders your pages and can read what it stores. What is end to end is narrower and true — call audio never touches the service, and the logbook is signed by the boat.
The security page states only what can be demonstrated, including a reading taken from the running machine: what is protected, and what is not.
